David Z is a Brooklyn, NY native raised in a family of musicians. His grandparents were both singers, and his father and uncle seasoned Rock musicians. That’s where David along with his older brother, Paulie Z, got their inspiration to start their own brand of Rock at a very young age. Through many different styles and lineups, the brothers finally formed ZO2. The band gained quick notoriety when they were asked to perform on the 40-city, 3-month long VH1 Rock The Nation Tour with KISS and Poison! Since then, ZO2 has released 3 albums, toured the country, and played with acts such as AC/DC, Stone Temple Pilots, Scorpions, Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, Dream Theater, Sebastian Bach, and Sammy Hagar. ZO2 is most recently known for a TV series that they starred in called Z-Rock, which aired for 2 seasons on the Independent Film Channel. The show is a semi-scripted, based-on-a-true story comedy in which David and band members play themselves as a rock band by night and a children’s band by day. David has been a children’s entertainer for years, which helped mold the idea for the show.

In addition to ZO2, David Z is also the bass player for the widely successful sold-out tour and platinum-selling Trans-Siberian Orchestra. A regular since 2000, he has also recorded on their “The Lost Christmas Eve” and “Night Castle” CDs. He’s appeared on other TSO members’ solo projects such as Chris Caffery and Mark Wood’s as well. In 2002, David joined Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, touring in and out of the country including stops in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Oman with the USO. In addition to being a veteran live touring musician, David is also an accomplished studio session player. With a bachelor’s degree in music from Brooklyn College, David has played on numerous recordings including singer Joe Lynn Turner, Wind-Up Records artist Seven Wiser, and works for USA and ESPN.

David Z has made other TV appearances on shows like Good Morning America, Regis and Kelly, The Today Show, and QVC, and has been a presenter with ZO2 for the 2009 Independent Spirit Awards. In addition to being a musician and actor, David has also dove into modeling work. David revealed it all in a spread for Playgirl Magazine in 2002. They always say that sex and rock ‘n’ roll are inseparable, and David Z nailed that point home!
